| 66 of 71 people found the following review helpful My honest review of Tiamat 7.1, By This review is from: Razer RZ04-00600100-R3U1 Tiamat Elite 7.1 Surround Sound Analog Gaming Headset (Personal Computers) Tiamat 7.1 is the first real analog 7.1 surround sound gaming headset. Before purchase this headset, I have been doing a lot of research and reading many reviews about it. Praised by many professional reviewers, I decided to made my purchase. It turns out, I have to return it to Razer and get a refund. However, the headset is work as its advertised but there are several things you have to understand before you place your order. The “7.1 analog surround sound” does work exceptionally but it has its disadvantage in many factors. Many games and movies in today’s market “DOES NOT” have native 7.1 soundtrack. So problems occurred, you have to downgrade this headset software setup to 5.1. I have a great HTOMEGA Claro plus sound card that recommended by Razer. I played Max Payne 3, Battlefield 3, Mass effect 3 and Diablo 3, etc with this headset. After hours of tweaking in both hardware and software sides, I realized these games does not support native 7.1 soundtrack but 5.1. If I set my system input and output as 8 channels (7.1) , the in-game sound will be faulty. You can hear 2 extra channels of echos of native 5.1 soundtrack. It results in-game sound will not be as solid as it should be but fuzzy and weird. However, once you setup the system input and output as 5.1, everything shines. It sounds the way the game should be. Solid in-game sound effect and clear directional sound. Secondly, packing too much speakers/ drivers in the headphones really hurt the overall sound quality. If you read the technical specification, you notices the Rear and side speakers are 20mms which results in-balance sound quality. You can hear the “clear” sound in the fronts, left and right channels (30mm drivers) while the rear and sides are fuzzy or muffle. Yet, these front channels also have their disadvantages too. The high frequency are too thin. Whenever you hear high pitch gun shots, explosions, music, and conversations, it might pierce your ear a little if you like to turn up the volume and be immerse with the game. It does not sound rich and warm enough. But it’s certainly sound crisp, clear and treble. Music Exmaple: When I was playing the music, “Wallflower” by Divalola, the girl sang the note too high. It really hurts my ears. I have been waiting for these headphones for a very long time. With the price tag of 9.99, you can certainly buy a better audio quality headset than these. But it will not be true 5.1 or 7.1 gaming purpose headset. So it’s like a trade off. It also made me realized that why these gaming headset companies have a hard time to create something alike. The sound quality is simply not there by packing too drivers in it. Before I buy this headset, I thought that gun sounds, effect sounds does not need to sound as great as audiophile level. But it’s not entirely true. For me, Too Crisp and too treble is bad too. At the end, the taste of the sound quality is a personal taste. This headset might not be my cup of tea. But it certainly serve its purpose. In additions, Tiamat 7.1 does have other great features, like the simple volume control unit that allows you to tweak the sound as you like. The Braided cable and the sturdy construct feels and looks great yet strong. By Razer tradition, the LED light is simply amazing. Verdict: It is not my cup of tea. But with many unique and great features builds upon it, it is very hard to pass up. Before you purchase this headset, I suggest you to test it before you buy. And ask yourself these 2 questions, Are you are a hardcore internet competitive gamers (which means you really need the pin-point directional sound to help you win)? or, Are you a kind of gamers that enjoy overall quality of in-game music soundtrack, effects, and music (which means you need a better audio quality headset)? 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful Seriously Phenomenal, By Super Tongue (Pennsylvania, USA) – See all my reviews This review is from: Razer RZ04-00600100-R3U1 Tiamat Elite 7.1 Surround Sound Analog Gaming Headset (Personal Computers) It’s been a long wait for Razer fans. I finally got my hands on a wave of Tiamats through the Razer Store, and the wait ended up being well worth it. Sound quality is great and the plug-and-play access is great, since it’s just a bunch of 3.5mm jacks and a USB port for power. No drivers needed! Pros: + Sound Quality – The most important part of a headset, right? The sound quality is fantastic for gaming and other 7.1 applications, but music can be lackluster at times compared to other headsets (SEE UPDATE BELOW, MUSIC IS GOOD). As reviews have mentioned, this is mainly due to the size of the drivers. You can’t cram five drivers in an earcup without having to sacrifice something! But in all honesty, overall sound quality is great. It might not be a perfect balance, but games like Battlefield 3 really blow you away. Listening to a helicopter fly above you and being able to pinpoint it’s location without even looking up adds to the experience. It might even help a little for those not-so-good at the game! + Overall Build Quality – Some people say Razer products lack quality, yet I’ve never once had an issue with a Razer product. The Tiamat 7.1 is no different. The design might be intimidating at first, but it’s both light and feels high-quality. The braided cables, as is tradition with Razer products, make for easier management and less tie-ups. The “control box” feels durable and easily rests on your desk without being forced off by cable weight. The microphone is hidden within the left earcup as well, allowing you to easily stow it upon demand. Honestly, the microphone is one of my favorite parts of this headset simply because of it’s location and the ability to hide it without detaching it or pushing it off to the side. Overall, the build quality is fantastic. + Design / Aesthetics – Razer and PC gaming is known for it’s more… flashy side. Some like it, others don’t. The Tiamat caters to both crowds in its design. Earcup covers are included, allowing you to either show off the inner drivers or cover them up to complete the sleek-black headset. Each side of the headset has a green glowing Razer logo, however, which might disappoint those who dislike LEDs. The top headband is not adjustable, but you’ll never notice it’s even there. The middle headband automatically moves depending on the size of your head, which is a seriously great feature. No more finding the sweet spot, it does it for you! As for the control box, it adds to the great design of the Tiamat 7.1. A large knob is surrounded by volume LEDs that turn on or off as you rotate for volume adjustment. You can turn 7.1 on or off, as well as revert to the line out for speakers. + Product Packaging – The Tiamat 7.1 comes in some of the best packaging from Razer. You get a sturdy box with a magnetically attached side that opens up to reveal your new headset. All product inserts and the Tiamat itself are easily removed without having to deal with tons of plastic casing. + Other – As mentioned, the control box is very nice to have. You can adjust each positional audio channel, as well as the overall audio and mic output. The knob isn’t just free flowing, it ticks and remains in placed unless moved as you increase or decrease the volume. Obviously, the LEDs surrounding the knob correspond to this as mentioned above. I found the control box overall to be nicer than I had expected. I also briefly mentioned sound output above. The Tiamat 7.1 comes with a very nice output cable that allows you to connect external speakers to the control box. This allows you to switch between the headset and your speakers on the fly. While I personally can’t say anything about this feature, it certainly is a nice addition. _________________________________________________________ Cons: - Price – 0 is a serious price to pay for a gaming headset. Whether this is actually a con of the product is up to you. I was okay with the purchase simply because I had prior experience with Razer products and had no issues. Professional reviews also boded well for this headset, so the 0 seemed justifiable. After having the headset for a few weeks, I certainly don’t regret the purchase. - No Carrying Case – While this isn’t a con for myself, I realize others might be expecting it. The box is certainly not designed to be portable, and there’s no included case. I personally don’t travel with my gaming desktop often, so a carrying case would just take up room. - Microphone – Quality of the microphone seemed to be “okay” most of the time while testing it. There’s obviously better recording devices out there, but for a headset microphone, this is about average. And while I absolutely love the position, the way it extends slightly made it feel like the microphone might fall out. In reality, it’s just the way it’s designed to be flexible, but it was a little scary extending it… 17 of 20 people found the following review helpful All I Can Say Is “WOW!”, By This review is from: Razer RZ04-00600100-R3U1 Tiamat Elite 7.1 Surround Sound Analog Gaming Headset (Personal Computers) To be honest, “WOW!” is really an understatement for this headset. I am far too impressed by the performance delivered from this product. Just the physical attributes themselves makes this headset all the more worth it. The retractable mic, the glossy finish, the comfortable fit, and most of all, the amazing sound that is produced from this headset will surely satisfy. I’ll make thise review brief, so here is the rundown. Chat quality is superb on both ends. No static can be heard(unless on a very bad connection) and voices sound crystal clear. I tested the mic with some friends in a private lobby and all said they heard me perfectly. The gameplay audio is some of the best I’ve ever heard from a gaming headset, period! With 10 drivers strategically located on each ear cup, you couldn’t ask for more. The perfect balance of bass, volume, and treble is found right here. The volume/adjustment pannel is very stylish and allows you the ability to tweak your audio settings just the way you like it. I personally found the design of the pannel very cool and unique. For the design; as i’m sure you already know, It’s sleek, durable, good looking, and unique. The only thing that set this product off 0.1 percent from a perfect 10, was the presence of wires. It could just be me but I found it a bit annoying having all those extra cords in my way. Other than that, this headset is outstanding! Overall, this product is amazing in just about every aspect. I am positive that this will satisfy anyone who takes intrest in the luxury of hearing gameplay to its fullest potential. Oh, I forgot to mention; it’s only 0! I’ve bought turtle beaches more expensive than that lol. And to keep things “100″ they dont compare. Hahaaa! Hope you guys enjoyed the review! \m/(>_<)\m/ |
