Vizio VSD210, December 11, 2011
This review is from: Vizio VSD210 High Definition Audio Dock for iPad, iPod and iPhone (VSD210) (Personal Computers)

Well after reading the only other review I went ahead and bought the Vizio VSD210 audio dock. I will agree that it does not work with any cover that I had on any of my devices. I thought that my Ipad and my 3G iphone (that I am repurposing for music) had very thin covers. Both would not work with the covers on. Cover off and they work fine. So, it works with a 3G iphone, original Ipad, and 4S iphone. Ok, we’ve put that puppy to bed.

Now onto the sound.

DISCLAIMER:: I am NOT and audiophile. I don’t compare stats, tech specs, etc. I just go by whether it sounds good or not…to me.

I have mine in our hearth room which is 20 x 24 and my whole family thinks it sounds very nice (better than our iHome that just quit). Rich tones, good enough bass (for the size of the device) and fills the room nicely. MP3′s and Pandora both sound good. I prefer the sound over the xtrememac tango (that has bluetooth though) and small iHome (which I have owned) and Sony solutions.
It charges my old phone while it is on the dock (although the position for charging can be a little finicky). The remote works well at approx. 16 – 18 feet. The remote has on/off, volume, next/previous song (I don’t think you can change playlists though) and input switching (so you could have one device on the dock and one device connected by the ?3.5mm? plug/cable, that is included in the box, with the ability to switch between them). Also has a integrated adjustable support for your device which is nice and easy.

Overall I’m very pleased with this device for what it is. It doesn’t pretend to be a high end solution. It does not sound as good as my 1000 watt Onkyo but I don’t expect it too.

It is a nice sounding, nice looking, moderately sized audio dock that does what it says it does. I got mine for 90 USD at Sams club online with free shipping. Good deal.

These units have a bug with the volume control, May 6, 2012
This review is from: Vizio VSD210 High Definition Audio Dock for iPad, iPod and iPhone (VSD210) (Personal Computers)

Apparently after reading the reviews, I’m not the only one with this problem. This is something Vizio needs to fix. I got mine from Costco, so swapped it out for a new one, but the 2nd one does the same thing. I tried it with several different IPODS, so it’s not the IPOD itself. The Vizio needs to play for 10 minutes or so before the problem develops with several changes via the remote in volume to have it not work right. Where you leave it on volume when it loses the ability to adjust, is where this Vizio brings it back to, no matter how many times you try to change the volume after it malfunctions. Only thing that cures the problem is to unplug it and replug. Though experimentation, I’ve found that NOT using the remote AT ALL for volume control defeats the problem. Little bit of a pain to have to adjust the IPOD ….but … The sound quality of this Vizio is really outstanding, so I’ll live with the problem now that I’ve figured out how to work around it. I’m wondering if we’re experiencing a bad batch of these …. Not everyone has commented on this issue.

================================================
Update:
Update on the volume. I let it play for 45 minutes adjusting nothing. Just tested it and the problem is back. Can’t even adjust the volume with the IPOD. Not sure what I’m going to do at this point. Sigh … geeze …………..

Gives the Bose a run for it’s money, December 31, 2011
This review is from: Vizio VSD210 High Definition Audio Dock for iPad, iPod and iPhone (VSD210) (Personal Computers)

I purchased this for my basement, and to compare to my Bose Sound Dock that we have upstairs. If there’s a difference between this and the Bose other than price, you can’t hear it at my house. While we love our Sound Dock, the Vizio seems to play just as well at less than half the price of the Bose, at least from where we bought it.

It is a little larger than the Bose, maybe 1/3 or so. My Ipod actually fits better in the Vizio than the Bose, and the Vizio has a neat little adjustment that allows for holding the Ipod steady and at varying angles for viewing, depending on the height that you have it. The remote looks nice, functions very well, though feels a bit cheap.

Overall, we like the Vizio very much, and had we found it before the Bose, we would have bought two and still had a few bucks to spare.
